Vicente Lenero

Vicente Leñero was a prominent Mexican writer who explored various genres and media, such as novels, short stories, plays, journalism, and screenwriting. He was known for his realistic and critical portrayal of Mexican society, politics, and culture, as well as his innovative use of narrative techniques and structures. He was also a co-founder of the influential weekly magazine Proceso, where he worked as a reporter, editor, and columnist. Some of his most acclaimed works include Los albañiles (The Bricklayers), El evangelio de Lucas Gavilán (The Gospel of Lucas Gavilán), La gota de agua (The Drop of Water), and El crimen del Padre Amaro (The Crime of Padre Amaro). He received several awards and honors for his literary and journalistic contributions, such as the Premio Biblioteca Breve, the Premio Xavier Villaurrutia, the Premio Nacional de Ciencias y Artes de México, and the Ariel Award. He died of lung cancer in Mexico City on December 3, 2014, at the age of 81.
