Juan Arvizu

Juan Arvizu was a Mexican singer who was acclaimed as one of the leading lyric tenors of his era and a noted interpreter of the Latin American bolero and tango. He began his career as an opera singer, debuting at the Teatro Esperanza Iris in 1924. He later expanded his repertoire to include popular music, especially the works of Agustín Lara and María Grever. He recorded for various labels, including Brunswick, Columbia, RCA Victor, and Peerless. He also appeared in several films, such as La canción del milagro (1939), El gendarme desconocido (1941), and El abanico de Lady Windermere (1944). He was nicknamed "The Tenor With the Silken Voice" for his smooth and expressive vocal quality. He performed on the international concert stage, on the radio, and in film until his retirement in 1967. He died in 1985 at the age of 85.
