Roberto Gonzalez Barrera

Roberto González Barrera was a Mexican entrepreneur who transformed the corn flour and tortilla industry in his country and abroad. He started his business career at a young age, selling eggs, bread, vegetables, and other foodstuff in his native town of Cerralvo. He later worked as a driver for Pemex, a coconut plantation owner, and a grocery warehouse manager. In 1948, he and his father bought their first corn mill and founded Maseca, which would become the world's largest producer of corn flour and tortillas. He also expanded his business interests to banking, becoming the founder and chairman of Banorte, the largest Mexican-owned private bank in Mexico. He was known for his vision, innovation, and social responsibility, as well as his friendship with prominent politicians and celebrities. He received several awards and honors for his achievements, such as the National Entrepreneur Award, the Aztec Eagle, and the Woodrow Wilson Award. He died in 2012 at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy of success and generosity.
