Helena Rojo

Helena Rojo was a Mexican actress and model who began her career in 1961. She studied drama with Carlos Ancira and José Luis Ibáñez and made her film debut in 1968. She worked with some of the most important Mexican film directors of the 1970s and 1980s, such as Felipe Cazals, Arturo Ripstein, Rafael Corkidi, Alberto Bojórquez, Marcela Fernández Violante, and Jorge Fons. She also collaborated with international talents, such as Werner Herzog, Peter O'Toole, and Charlotte Rampling. She was known for her roles in films such as Aguirre, the Wrath of God, Foxtrot, The House in the South, and Darker Than Night. She won the Ariel Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1972 for her role in End of the Party. She also had a successful career in television, starring in many popular telenovelas, such as La venganza, El privilegio de amar, Abrázame muy fuerte, and Por ella soy Eva. She was considered one of the grand dames of Mexican television and received many awards and recognitions for her work. She also appeared in theater and radio productions. She died after a battle with liver cancer on February 3, 2024, at the age of 79. She left behind an incredible legacy and a large fan base that admired her talent and beauty.
