Sergio Galindo

Sergio Galindo was a prominent Mexican writer of the 20th century. He was born in Xalapa, Veracruz, a region that influenced much of his writing. He studied literature at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and in Paris. He became a professor of aesthetics in Xalapa and later the founder and editor-in-chief of the Veracruz University publisher. He also edited the magazine La palabra y el hombre and was the director general of the National Institute of Fine Arts. He wrote four books of short stories and nine novels, some of which were translated into other languages and adapted into films. His most popular and acclaimed novels are El Bordo (The Precipice) and Otilia Rauda (Otilia's Body). He received several awards and honors for his literary work, such as the Order of the British Empire, the Mariano Azuela Prize, the Xavier Villarrutia Prize, and the José Fuentes Mares National Prize for Literature. He was also elected to the Mexican Academy of the Language and the Spanish Royal Academy. He died of a heart attack in 1993 in his hometown.
