Carlos Pellicer

Carlos Pellicer was a Mexican poet and museologist who was part of the first wave of modernist poets in his country. He was also an active promoter of Mexican art, literature, and history. He traveled extensively around the world and wrote poems inspired by the landscapes and cultures he encountered. He was a friend and collaborator of Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, and other prominent artists. He founded several museums, such as the Frida Kahlo Museum and the Anahuacalli Museum in Mexico City. He also served as a professor, journalist, critic, diplomat, and senator. He received the National Literature Prize in 1954 and was considered one of the most influential and popular poets of his time. His poetic style was characterized by a rich and colorful imagery, a musical rhythm, and a celebration of nature and life. Some of his most notable works are Colores en el mar (Colors in the Sea, 1921), Hora de junio (June Hour, 1931), Práctica de vuelo (Flight Practice, 1937), and Recinto y otras imágenes (Enclosure and Other Images, 1941). He died of a heart attack in Mexico City on February 16, 1977.
