About me / Bio:
Eugenio Méndez Docurro was a Mexican engineer and politician who served as the Secretary of Communications and Transportation from 1970 to 1976 under President Luis Echeverría. He was responsible for the development and expansion of the telecommunications infrastructure in Mexico, including the creation of the National Institute of Telecommunications, the National Commission of Free Textbooks, and the National System of Education by Satellite. He also promoted the construction of highways, railways, ports, and airports throughout the country. He was a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party and a senator for the Federal District. He received several awards and honors for his contributions to the fields of engineering, education, and public service, such as the National Prize of Engineering, the Belisario Domínguez Medal of Honor, and the Order of the Aztec Eagle. He died of heart failure in 1998 at the age of 84.
