About me / Bio:
Laura Esther Rodriguez Dulanto was a trailblazer in the field of medicine in Peru. Born on October 18, 1872, in Supe, she overcame the educational barriers of her time to become the first female physician in Peru. Her determination led her to the Faculty of Medicine of San Marcos University, where she vowed as a physician and surgeon on October 25, 1900. Specializing in gynecology, she published numerous papers and also studied tuberculosis, presenting her work at international congresses. Beyond her medical practice, she founded the Patriotic Union of Ladies in 1910 and contributed surgical equipment to the Military Hospital during the border conflict between Peru and Ecuador. Her legacy extends beyond her medical achievements, as she paved the way for future generations of women in her country. She passed away after a long illness on July 6, 1919, in Lima.
