Lia Manoliu was a Romanian discus thrower and an Olympic champion. She was the first track and field athlete to compete at six Olympics, from 1952 to 1972. Manoliu won a gold medal at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and two bronze medals at the 1960 Rome and 1964 Tokyo Olympics. She was known for her determination and sportsmanship, which earned her the UNESCO Fair Play Prize in 1974. After retiring from athletics, she served as vice-president and then as president of the Romanian Olympic Committee. Manoliu was also a member of the IAAF Women's Committee and the Romanian Senate. Her legacy continues to inspire athletes around the world.
