Dinu C. Giurescu

Dinu C. Giurescu was a renowned Romanian historian and politician, born on February 15, 1927, in Bucharest, Romania. He was the son of the famous historian Constantin C. Giurescu. After graduating from the University of Bucharest's Faculty of History in 1950, he obtained his PhD in History in 1968. Giurescu became a professor at the Bucharest National University of Arts, where he taught until 1987. He emigrated to the United States in 1988 and published significant works, including 'The Razing of Romania's Past,' analyzing the Nicolae Ceaușescu regime's policy toward Romania's architectural heritage. He returned from exile in 1990 and became a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy, later becoming a titular member in 2001. Giurescu served as a professor of history at the University of Bucharest from 1990 to 2011 and was elected to the Chamber of Deputies for a Bucharest seat, representing the Conservative Party. His contributions to Romanian history and politics were significant, and his legacy continues to influence the field. He passed away due to myocardial infarction at his home in Bucharest on April 24, 2018.
