About me / Bio:
Gabriel Figueroa was a Mexican cinematographer who is regarded as one of the greatest cinematographers of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. He has worked in over 200 films, which cover a broad range of genres, and is best known for his technical dominance, his careful handling of framing and chiaroscuro, and affinity for the aesthetics of artists. He collaborated with many prominent directors, such as Luis Buñuel, John Ford, John Huston, Emilio Fernández, and Alejandro González Iñárritu. He received several awards and honors, including an Oscar nomination, seven Ariel Awards, the National Prize of Arts and Sciences, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was also a founding member of the Cinematographers Union and the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Mexico. He died of a heart attack in 1997, at the age of 90. His legacy lives on through his films, his artistic influence, and his son Gabriel Figueroa Flores, who is also a cinematographer.
