Octavio Paz

"Octavio Paz Lozano was a Mexican poet and diplomat. He was born on March 31, 1914 in Mexico City. His father, Octavio Paz Solórzano, was a prominent lawyer and journalist who supported Emiliano Zapata during the Revolution. His mother was Josefina Lozano. He spent considerable time with his grandfather Ireneo, since his namesake father was active fighting in the Mexican Revolution. He began writing at the age of eight and had his first book of poems published at nineteen⁴. Later he joined Mexican diplomatic service and it was during his stint as Ambassador to India that he had the opportunity to study Hindu and Buddhist philosophies which influenced his later writings⁴. He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1990. He passed away on April 19, 1998 in Mexico City¹."
