Carlos Enrique Taboada

Carlos Enrique Taboada was a Mexican screenwriter and director, who was known for his supernatural horror and suspense films, such as Hasta el viento tiene miedo, Más negro que la noche, Veneno para las hadas, and El Libro de piedra. He started his career in 1950 as a scriptwriter and director for Mexican television. He retired from screenwriting for five years after being disappointed by the reception of his first screenplay, Kid Tabaco. He returned to cinema in 1959, writing several scripts for horror and crime films. He made his directorial debut in 1964 with La recta final, a thriller about a group of jockeys. He achieved fame and recognition with his 1968 film Hasta el viento tiene miedo, which is considered a classic of Mexican horror cinema. He continued to explore the themes of fear, mystery, and fantasy in his subsequent films, often featuring female protagonists and child characters. He won two Ariel Awards for Best Picture and Best Director for his 1984 film Poison for the Fairies, which was also his last film. He died in 1997 of a heart attack in Mexico City. He is regarded as one of the most influential and original filmmakers of Mexican cinema.
