Anton Lajovic

Anton Lajovic was a Slovenian composer, born on December 19, 1878, in Vače, and passed away on August 28, 1960, in Ljubljana. He received his initial musical education at the Ljubljana Music School and later studied composition at the Vienna Conservatory with the support of a Ravnikar scholarship. Concurrently, he pursued legal studies at the University of Vienna. Lajovic served as a judge in Slovenia and Croatia while also composing music. His compositions, primarily Lieder, were influenced by the late-romantic French school. In 1938, he became a regular member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. His contributions to Slovenian music included elements of neo-romanticism, French impressionism, and musical naturalism. Lajovic's legacy in the field of music is marked by his extensive body of work, which includes around 40 art songs, 20 choral pieces, two cantatas, five symphonic poems, and other compositions. He was awarded the Prešern Award for lifetime achievement in 1954.
