Anton Tomaz Linhart

Anton Tomaž Linhart was a Carniolan playwright and historian, recognized as the author of the first comedy and theatrical play in Slovene, Županova Micka (Micka, the Mayor's Daughter). He is also considered the father of Slovene historiography. Linhart was born in Radovljica, then part of the Habsburg monarchy, and was baptized Thomas Antonius Leanhorht. His father was a Czech hosiery manufacturer, and his mother died when he was nine years old. Linhart attended primary school in his hometown and then went to Ljubljana. He studied trade and finance in Vienna and worked in various administrative roles in Carniola. He married Jožefina Detel and had two daughters. Linhart's contributions to Slovene culture and historiography remain influential to this day.
