Anton Peterlin

Anton Peterlin was a renowned mathematical physicist known for his significant contributions to the field of rheology and polymer physics. He was born on September 25, 1908, in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He received his M.S. degree in Mathematics from the University of Ljubljana in 1930 and his D.Sc in Physics from Humboldt University in Berlin in 1938. Peterlin founded the physics department at the University of Ljubljana and served as its chairperson from 1939 to 1960. He also directed the Josef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana from 1949 to 1959. Later in his career, he held positions at the Technical University of Munich, the Research Triangle Institute in North Carolina, and the National Bureau of Science and Technology. For his research, he received the Prešeren Award, Slovenia's highest scientific award, in 1955, the Bingham Medal for rheology in 1970, and the American Physical Society's High Polymer Physics Prize in 1972. He passed away on March 24, 1993, in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
