Ivan Potrc

Ivan Potrč was a Slovene writer and playwright known for his works in social realism. Born into a poor peasant family, he faced challenging social circumstances and became an enthusiastic communist. His political activities led to imprisonment and exclusion from high school. He worked as a journalist and later became the director of the Mladinska knjiga publishing company. His influential works include a drama trilogy and the novel 'Na kmetih' (The Land and the Flesh), which has been translated into numerous languages. For his contributions to literature, Potrč received two Prešeren Awards. He was also a member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
