Wakil Hussain Allahdad

Wakil Hussain Allahdad was an Afghan wrestler, community first responder and an entrepreneur who dedicated his life to helping the victims of suicide attacks in Kabul. He was born in 1986 in Kabul, Afghanistan. He started wrestling at the age of 12 and won many medals in domestic and international tournaments. He retired from wrestling in 2014 due to an injury and became a coach at a local wrestling club. He also ran multiple small businesses, including a photography shop, a travel agency and a crockery shop. He was known for his courage and kindness, as he would rush to the scene of every terrorist incident and carry the wounded and the dead. He was photographed by AFP in 2016 carrying a wounded girl after an attack on the Karte Sakhi Shrine, and the image went viral. He also helped the survivors of the 2017 Kabul mosque attack. He was killed in the 2018 Kabul suicide bombing that targeted a voter registration centre across the street from his shop. He was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries. He was mourned by many Afghans who called him a hero and a martyr.
