Ghulam Qawis Abubaker was an economist and an industrialist who served in various positions in the previous governments of Afghanistan. He was an admirer of Mohammed Daoud Khan, the first president of the republic of Afghanistan. His goal was to use Khan's industrial models to develop the industry in Afghanistan. Abubaker also had an important role in the drawing of these models during the presidency of Mohammed Daud Khan. Under Ghulam Qawis Abubaker's leadership, agricultural production increased from 20 thousand tons to 160 thousand tons. He ran for the presidency of Afghanistan in 2004 and 2009, advocating for peace and reconciliation in the country and opposing the Taliban regime. He was killed in a suicide attack at his home in Kabul on June 6, 2021, along with other prominent figures, including former president Burhanuddin Rabbani. He was 79 years old at the time of his death. He was mourned by many Afghans who praised his service and contribution to the nation.
