Mangal was a midwife and studied law before pursuing journalism at Mashal University in Kabul. She supported her siblings' education through various jobs and gained popularity hosting television channels like Tolo TV, Shamshad TV, Lemar TV, and the Ariana Television Network. Known for her feminist stance and advocacy for women's rights, particularly in education and employment, Mangal faced domestic violence from her arranged husband. Despite a formal divorce, she continued to be harassed by her ex-husband's family. Before her assassination on May 11, 2019, in Kabul, she served as a cultural commissioner to the House of the People. Her death sparked outcry and demands for justice, highlighting the ongoing struggle for women's safety in Afghanistan.
