About me / Bio:
Sulaiman Layeq, born Ghulam Mujaddid, was an influential Afghan politician and poet. He served as President of the Academy of Sciences, a full member of the Afghan Politburo, and Minister of Nationalities and Tribal Affairs. Layeq was born into a Sulaimankhel Pashtun family in Sharana. His father, Abdul Ghani, was a religious tribal figure and a khalifa of the Naqshbandi Sufi order. Layeq attended prestigious schools and became politically active early in his life, leading protests and eventually becoming involved in journalism and politics. He was a founding member of the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) and played a significant role in the country's political landscape. Layeq's literary works are also highly regarded, reflecting his deep ideological beliefs and his love for his country. He died on July 31, 2020, from injuries sustained in a suicide bombing in Kabul.
