Alexandra Louise Olga Victoria of Saxe

Alexandra was the fourth child and third daughter of Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia. She was a granddaughter of both Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and Tsar Alexander II of Russia. She spent her childhood in England, Malta, and Coburg, and was a bridesmaid at the weddings of her aunt Princess Beatrice and her cousin the Duke of York. In 1896, she married Ernst II, Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, a distant cousin and a German nobleman. They had five children, four of whom survived to adulthood. Alexandra was a devoted wife and mother, who supported her husband in his political and social activities. She was also involved in charitable work, especially during the First World War, when she served as a Red Cross nurse. She died in 1942 at the age of 63 from a heart attack. She was buried in Langenburg alongside her husband, who died in 1950.
