About me / Bio:
Karlheinz Böhm was a German-born Austrian actor and philanthropist. He started his acting career on stage in Germany and later became famous for his role as Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria in the Sissi film trilogy. He also played the psychopathic protagonist Mark Lewis in Peeping Tom, directed by Michael Powell. He worked briefly in the American film and television industry, appearing in movies such as The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm and The Magnificent Rebel. He also collaborated with the director Rainer Werner Fassbinder in several films, such as Fox and His Friends and Mother Kusters Goes to Heaven. In 1981, he founded the charity organization Menschen für Menschen (Humans for Humans), which helps people in need in Ethiopia. He received honorary Ethiopian citizenship in 2003 and several awards for his humanitarian work, such as the Balzan Prize and the Erasmus Prize. He was married four times and had seven children. He died of Alzheimer's disease in 2014 at the age of 86.
