Sherkhan Farnood was an influential Afghan banker and poker player, born on August 15, 1963, in Kunduz Province. He was the Chairman of Kabul Bank, Afghanistan's largest private financial institution, and held a significant share of the bank. Farnood was also known for his ownership of Pamir Airways. His business acumen extended to Moscow, where he ran a hawala during the 1980s and 1990s. A notable figure in the poker world, Farnood won a bracelet at the 2008 World Series of Poker Europe. He spent much of his time in Dubai, owning several properties there. Farnood's life took a dramatic turn when he was placed under house arrest in early 2011, and he died in prison on August 24, 2018, at the age of 55.
