Nils Collett Vogt

Nils Collett Vogt was a Norwegian poet and writer who was born in Christiania (now Oslo) in 1864. He came from a conservative upper-class family, but rebelled against the authorities and the norms of his time. He joined the Liberal Party and wrote radical articles for newspapers when he was only 17 years old. He dropped out of law studies and devoted himself to poetry, making his debut with the collection Digte (Poems) in 1887. He was influenced by the European modernist movements and experimented with different forms and themes in his poetry. He also wrote novels, plays, and autobiographies, often based on his own experiences and conflicts. He was married to Siri Maria Thyselius, a daughter of a Swedish prime minister, and lived with her at her estate in Sweden for many years. He was a prominent figure in the Norwegian literary scene and served as the chairman of the Norwegian Authors' Union. He died of heart failure in 1937 at the age of 73.
