David Huerta was a Mexican poet and the son of well-known poet Efraín Huerta. He studied Philosophy, and English and Spanish literature at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He worked as a translator and editor for the Fondo de Cultura Económica, and wrote an opinion column for the political weekly Proceso. He received numerous awards, such as the Carlos Pellicer poetry award in 1990 and the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize in 2006. He was a Fellow of the Mexican Writers' Centre, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA). He also taught literature at the Octavio Paz Foundation and the Foundation of Mexican Letters. He died of kidney failure on 3 October 2022.
