Yousaf Shakeel

Yousaf Shakeel, also known as Shakeel, was a Pakistani actor, playwright and academic who started his career as a child artist in Radio Pakistan in 1952. He made his film debut in Riwaj in 1964 and acted in more than 200 films in his career. He also appeared in many television dramas, such as Nazrana, the first-ever play of PTV, Andhera Ujala, Lakhon Main Teen, Aangan and Khaani. He was also a playwright and wrote the autobiographical one-man stage play Action and Reaction in 2011. He received many awards for his work, including Pride of Performance, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Necip Fazil International Culture and Art Award. He also taught film and drama production at the National College of Arts and mentored many young artists. He died of arthritis and heart complications on 29 June 2023 in Karachi at the age of 85. He was laid to rest in his hometown.
