Khalid Saeed Butt

Khalid Saeed Butt was a Pakistani painter and miniaturist who painted in the style of the Mughal and Persian miniature tradition. He was born in Lahore, Punjab in 1948 and graduated from the National College of Arts in 1971. He was a disciple of the renowned miniaturist Ustad Haji Sharif and learned the techniques of miniature painting from him. He also studied under the guidance of Sadequain, one of the most influential artists of Pakistan. He developed his own style of painting, which was influenced by the Mughal, Persian, Turkish and Indian art forms. He used vibrant colors, intricate details, and geometric patterns to create his paintings. He also experimented with different mediums, such as watercolor, oil, acrylic, and gouache. He painted various themes, such as landscapes, portraits, animals, flowers, and religious scenes. He also depicted the contemporary social and political issues of Pakistan in his paintings. He participated in many national and international exhibitions and won several awards for his work, including the Pride of Performance, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Necip Fazil International Culture and Art Award. He also taught miniature painting at the National College of Arts and mentored many young artists. He died of cancer on 15 January 2023 in Lahore at the age of 75. He was laid to rest in his hometown.
