Fariha Razzaq Haroon

Fariha Razzaq Haroon was a journalist, academic, and script-writer from Pakistan. She was the first woman to be recognised as a correspondent in Pakistan. She was born in 1956 in Karachi, Pakistan. She graduated from the department of journalism at the University of Karachi in 1963, where she was the first and only female student. She joined Dawn News in 1966 and became the first female reporter in Pakistan. She later worked for the PTV for 18 years. She also served as the chairperson of mass communication at the University of Karachi and the Mohammad Ali Jinnah University. She was involved in various social and educational projects, such as the Pakistan National Conservation Strategy, the International Federation of the Blind, and the Disabled People's Federation of Pakistan. She received several awards and honors for her work, such as the MBE, the Takeo Iwahashi Award, and the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz. She married Hazar Khan Bijarani, a politician and minister, in 2008. She died of natural causes on February 1, 2018, at the age of 62.
