Amanat Ali Khan

Amanat Ali Khan was a Pakistani classical vocalist and ghazal singer from the Patiala gharana tradition of music. He was the son of Ustad Akhtar Hussain Khan and the nephew of Ustad Bade Fateh Ali Khan, who were also renowned classical singers. He started learning music from his father at the age of nine and joined him on stage in 1932. He was known for his mastery of khayal, thumri, and ghazal styles of singing and his melodious voice. He sang many poems written by his father and uncle, as well as by famous Urdu poets such as Mirza Ghalib, Daagh Dehlvi, and Faiz Ahmed Faiz. He performed in various countries, including India, UK, Canada, and US, where he was highly acclaimed and respected. He was awarded the Pride of Performance by the Government of Pakistan in 1969. He died of heart failure in Lahore on 18 September 1974. He is regarded as one of the finest classical and ghazal singers of all time.
