Akbar Khan

Akbar Khan was a Pakistani actor, painter and sculptor who started his career as a child artist in Radio Pakistan in 1952. He made his film debut in Riwaj in 1964 and acted in more than 200 films in his career. He also appeared in many television dramas, such as Nazrana, the first-ever play of PTV, Andhera Ujala, Lakhon Main Teen, Aangan and Khaani. He was also a painter and a sculptor of note, with a deep love for the art of sculpting. He fought for wider appreciation of sculpture as an art form and believed in its transformative ability. His creative endeavors went beyond the entertainment industry, demonstrating his dedication to the creative community as a whole. He wrote and performed the autobiographical one-man stage play Action and Reaction in 2011, which was well received by the critics and the audience. He received many awards for his work, including Pride of Performance, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Necip Fazil International Culture and Art Award. He also taught acting and art at the National College of Arts and mentored many young artists. He died of an illness on 22 August 2023 in Karachi at the age of 77. He was laid to rest in his hometown.
