Allan Fakir

Allan Fakir was a Pakistani Sufi folk singer who was known for his ecstatic style of performance and his devotion to the Sindhi poet and saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. He started singing at the shrine of Bhittai at a young age and became one of the most popular singers of Sindhi folk music. He sang in Sindhi, Urdu and Saraiki languages and used traditional instruments like yaktaro, damboro and chimta. He collaborated with pop singer Muhammad Ali Shehki and poet Jamiluddin Aali and produced some of his famous songs like "Allah Allah Kar Bhayya", "Itne Bade Jeevan Saagar Mein" and "Tarrin Paunda". He also sang patriotic songs and received the Pride of Performance Award from the President of Pakistan in 1980. He died of a heart attack in Karachi on 4 July 2000 at the age of 68.
