Ghazala Javed

Ghazala Javed was a Pashtun playback singer who was popular with young, progressive ethnic Pashtuns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She started singing in 2004 and recorded songs in Pashto, Urdu and Saraiki languages. She was famous not only in Pakistan but also in neighbouring Afghanistan and among Pashtuns around the world. She sang songs like "Baran dy baran dy", "Lag rasha kana" and "Za lewaney da mena". She was nominated for a Filmfare Award in 2010. She married Jahangir Khan, a property dealer, in 2010 but later divorced him after finding out that he had another wife and was abusive. She filed a petition for divorce in 2011 and the court granted it in December 2011. She was shot dead by her ex-husband and his cousin on June 18, 2012 in Peshawar. She was 24 years old.
