Shabbir Rana

Shabbir Rana was a Pakistani film, television and stage actor, director and producer who started his career as a set designer at PTV in 1972. He then became a successful producer and director for PTV's Karachi centre and produced his first drama Mehmoodabad Ki Malkain in 1982, which starred Ayesha Khan and Imran Abbas and became a blockbuster hit. He also produced and directed many other popular dramas, such as Dehleez, Dhoop Kinare, Tanhaiyan and Nijaat. He also acted in several dramas, such as Qaid e Tanhai, Bey Inteha, Mohabbat Zindagi Hai and Uraan. He also worked as a film producer and director and made films like Nazrana, Zindagi and Khuda Kay Liye. He received many awards for his work, including Pride of Performance, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Necip Fazil International Culture and Art Award. He also taught film and drama production at the National College of Arts and mentored many young artists. He died of cancer on 7 May 2023 in Lahore at the age of 71. He was laid to rest in his hometown.
