Umer Shareef was a Pakistani comedian, actor, director, producer, writer, singer and television personality who was widely regarded as the "King of Comedy". He was born in 1955 in Karachi and started his career as a stage performer at the age of 14. He wrote and acted in several popular stage plays, such as Bakra Qistoon Pe and Buddha Ghar Pe Hai. He also worked in many television shows and films, where he not only acted but also directed and produced. He was the host of his own late-night talk show, The Shareef Show, where he interviewed many celebrities and politicians. He also appeared as a guest judge on the Indian comedy show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. He received many awards and honors, including the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and the Hilal-i-Imtiaz. He died in 2021 at the age of 66 after being hospitalized with cancer. He was given a state funeral and buried with full honors in Karachi.
