Arthur Nayyar

Arthur Nayyar, commonly known as A. Nayyar, was a Pakistani film playback singer and ghazal singer. He started his career in 1974 with a duet song in the film Bahisht. He always claimed famous singer Ahmed Rushdi as an important contributor to his career as he learned film playback singing from him. Nayyar and Akhlaq Ahmed remained dominant playback singers of the Pakistani film industry in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s. He won five Nigar Awards and the Pride of Performance Award for his singing. He sang over 4200 film, radio and television songs in his singing career. He was also a student of legendary musician Wajahat Atre and sought guidance from ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan. He was inspired by Mohammad Rafi, Talat Mahmood and Saleem Raza. He died of a cardiac arrest in Lahore on 11 November 2016 after a prolonged illness. He was 66 years old.
