Branka Jurca was a Slovene writer, teacher, and editor, known for her significant contributions to children's literature. She was born on May 24, 1914, in Kopriva, and grew up in Maribor after World War I. During World War II, she joined the Slovene Liberation Front but was arrested and sent to concentration camps. After the war, she worked as a teacher and editor before dedicating herself to writing. Jurca authored 35 stories for children, novels, and collections of short stories, winning the Levstik Award twice. She passed away on March 6, 1999, in Ljubljana.
