Leonid Dimov was a Romanian postmodernist poet and translator known for his significant contribution to onirism in Romanian poetry. He was born in Izmail, Bassarabia, and was one of the main representatives of onirism, exploring dreams as an absolute, objective reality. His literary debut came in 1965, and he continued to publish works until shortly before his death. Despite not being an outright political dissident, Dimov was a nonconformist who refused to praise the regime, which brought him to the attention of the Romanian secret police, the Securitate. He passed away due to a heart attack.
