Wongsa Dhiraj Snid

Wongsa Dhiraj Snid, also known as the 'Doctor Prince', was a Thai physician and diplomat, as well as a member of the reigning Chakri dynasty. Born on July 9, 1808, in Bangkok, Siam, he was the 49th son of King Rama II. He became the court physician during the reigns of Rama III and Rama IV, adopting Western-style medicine and compiling a textbook of Thai medicinal herbs. He served as a diplomat and field commander, notably during the Burmese–Siamese War and in negotiations for the Bowring Treaty with the United Kingdom and the Harris Treaty with the United States. His legacy includes the Sanidwongse family name taken by his descendants, several of whom also served as royal physicians.
