George Bradley McFarland

George Bradley McFarland, also known by the Thai noble title Phra Ach Vidyagama, was a Siam-born American physician who played a pivotal role in establishing modern medical education in Thailand. He was born in 1866 in Siam to Presbyterian missionary Samuel G. McFarland. After studying medicine and dentistry in the United States, he returned to Siam to head the newly established Royal Medical College at Siriraj Hospital, now the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University. He taught there for 35 years before retiring. McFarland wrote the first Thai medical textbooks, compiled a Thai–English dictionary, and popularized the use of Thai-language typewriters. His contributions have had a lasting impact on medical education in Thailand.
