Phraya Sisunthonwohan

Phraya Sisunthonwohan, born Noi Acharayangkun on July 5, 1822, in Chachoengsao, was a Thai writer and scholar. He is renowned for writing the first modern textbooks on the Thai language, the Munlabot Banphakit series. Ordained as a novice monk at Wat Saket, he studied language and scripture before leaving the monkhood to join the royal court of King Mongkut. He later became head of the Royal Scribes Department under King Chulalongkorn and served as court poet. His contributions to Thai education were pivotal, teaching the royal children and serving on the Privy Council until his death on October 16, 1891.
