Roberto Gavaldon

Roberto Gavaldón was a Mexican film director who was one of the main figures of the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema. He directed 28 films between 1941 and 1979, many of which were critically acclaimed and won several awards. He was known for his melodramatic and populist films, such as La barraca, En la palma de tu mano, El niño y la niebla, Macario, and Las tres perfectas casadas. He also fought for the Mexican workers' rights and against foreign investment. He was the grandfather of the retired professional tennis player Angélica Gavaldón. He died of a heart attack in Mexico City in 1986.
