Maria Felix

María Félix was one of the most successful and iconic figures of Latin American cinema in the 1940s and 1950s. She starred in 47 films, mostly in Mexico, but also in Spain, France, Italy and Argentina. She was known for her strong personality, her beauty and her roles as powerful and independent women. She was nicknamed La Doña, after her character in Doña Bárbara (1943), and María Bonita, after the song composed for her by her second husband, Agustín Lara, a famous Mexican composer. She was married four times, and had one son, Enrique, who also became an actor. She also had a passion for horses and jewelry, and owned a collection of precious stones and artworks. She died on her 88th birthday, of congestive heart failure, in Mexico City. She is considered a legend of Mexican cinema and culture.
