Roman Czerniawski

Roman Czerniawski was a Polish Air Force officer who served as a spy for the Allies during World War II. He graduated from the military academy in Warsaw and participated in the September Campaign in 1939. He escaped to France and organized an espionage network called Interallie, which was later infiltrated by the Germans. He was arrested and turned into a double agent by the Abwehr, but he revealed his true allegiance to the British MI6 and MI5. He used the codename Brutus and played a major role in the deception plan for the D-Day landings in Normandy. He was awarded the Virtuti Militari, the highest Polish military decoration. After the war, he settled in London and became a minister in the Polish government-in-exile. He died in 1985 at the age of 75.
