Yemi Tella was a Nigerian football coach who led the Nigerian under-17 team to win the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup in South Korea. He was also a former lecturer at the National Institute for Sports in Lagos. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in June 2007, but he did not let his illness affect his performance as a coach. He inspired his young players with his passion and dedication, and guided them to achieve the ultimate glory in their age category. He was honored with the title of 2007 African coach of the year and the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic medal by the Nigerian president Umaru Yar'Adua. He passed away on 20 October 2007 at the age of 56, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and courage.
