Paulo Autran

Paulo Autran was a Brazilian film and theater actor, who was considered the "Lord of the Stage" for his achievements and influence in the Brazilian theatrical scene. He was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1922, and initially studied law and worked as a lawyer. He became interested in theater after joining an amateur group, and made his professional debut in 1949. He soon established himself as a leading actor, working with renowned directors and playwrights, such as Nelson Rodrigues, Antunes Filho, and Jorge Andrade. He also appeared in several films, such as Entranced Earth (1967), by Glauber Rocha, and The Machine (2005), his last film role. He was known for his versatility, charisma, and dedication to his craft. He received many awards and honors, such as the Molière Prize, the Shell Prize, and the Order of Cultural Merit. He was married to actress Karin Rodrigues from 1999 until his death in 2007, due to lung cancer. He had no children, but was a mentor and inspiration for many young actors. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Brazilian actors of all time.
