Oskar Fischinger

Oskar Fischinger was a German-American artist who pioneered the field of abstract musical animation. He was fascinated by the relationship between sound and vision, and created many films and paintings that explored this connection. He was also a technical innovator who experimented with various techniques such as wax slicing, multiple projector performances, and optical sound. He influenced many other artists and filmmakers, such as Norman McLaren, John Cage, Len Lye, and Walt Disney. He faced many challenges and difficulties in his career, such as censorship, lack of funding, and artistic compromise. He moved from Germany to the United States in 1936, hoping to find more freedom and opportunities for his work. However, he was often frustrated by the commercial demands of Hollywood and the lack of appreciation for his art. He continued to work on his personal projects until his death in 1967 from a stroke. He left behind a legacy of over 50 short films and 800 paintings, many of which are now in museums and collections around the world.
