Abd al-Masih Haddad

Abd al-Masih Haddad was a Syrian writer and journalist who immigrated to the United States in 1907. He was one of the founders of the Pen League, an Arabic-language literary society that included prominent Mahjari poets such as Kahlil Gibran and Mikha'il Na'ima. He was also the editor of As-Sayeh, a magazine that published the works of Mahjari writers and became the "spokesman" of the Pen League. He wrote a collection of short stories titled Hikayat al-Mahjar, which explored the themes of expatriation, nostalgia, and identity. He also wrote a travel account of his visit to Syria in 1962, which was published posthumously. He died in New York City in 1963 at the age of 73. He is considered one of the pioneers of modern Arabic literature and a representative of the Mahjar movement.
