Carlos Alberto Seguín was a prominent Peruvian psychiatrist known for his work in psychosomatic medicine and psychoanalysis. He was born in Arequipa, Peru, on August 8, 1907, and passed away in Lima, Peru, on August 26, 1995. Seguín's father was deported to Argentina for political reasons, which led Carlos to study medicine at the University of Buenos Aires, graduating in 1932. He then settled in Formosa, Argentina, where he strengthened his vocation for psychiatry. In 1939, he returned to Peru and began working at the Hospital Obrero de Lima, where he founded the psychiatry service. Seguín also spent time in the United States to improve his skills and knowledge. Throughout his career, he published around 300 articles and several influential books, making significant contributions to the field of psychiatry in Latin America.
