Augusto Huaman Velasco was a renowned physician, philanthropist, humanitarian, statesman, lecturer, and scientist. Born in Lima, Peru, he was the son of Gil Huaman, a jurist and landowner. He studied at Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe High School and graduated with honors from the medical school of the Universidad de San Marcos.
